Missional students being introduced to Human Development and Family Studies field, will gain an understanding of individual and family development over the life span. This course will specifically focus on the developing individual within the context of the family system and the changes that occur in family systems over time.
Missional students will be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of relevant research and theory in the area of Human Development and Family Studies. They will be able to comprehend the systematic interaction of individual, family, and social influences on human development across the lifespan. Missional student will be able to identify contextual factors that influence individual and family development as well as appreciate the diversity that exists both within and between families. Missional students will analyze family processes that influence individual human development, as well as individual experiences that impact a family’s life course. Missional students will also have the opportunity to examine real life situations of families as well as evaluate outcomes of family processes on individual development.
This course is valuable because of the direct focus on individual /family development, which will allow Missional students to be prepared to deal directly with individual / family dynamics that evolve and change over time.
This course has biblical foundations that support the need for assisting Missional students in being able to, be familiar with and identify concepts of individual / family development and; how to provide counseling services and support through resources to foster continuous positive growth and development, according to the individual /family’s needs; from a spiritual perspective.
This course is missional because of the emphasis on providing services beyond the scope of the traditional church setting.
This course is contextual due to dealing with the needs and issues individuals / families face within their environment.
This course is Intercultural because it is designed to equip Missional students to be able to minister to and deal with all individuals /families from various cultural backgrounds
This course has practical application within society.
This course is also experiential because of its ability to provide a knowledge base for Missional Students to comprehend the plight that individuals /families have within their environment as it pertains to growth and development.
