An examination of the cause and effects of substance abuse and society. Students will learn not only how the environment plays a role in a substance abuser’s life, but also how a substance abuser influences the environment around them. Both positive and negative cause and effects will be discussed in this course.
This course will relate to students who want to serve in the capacity of assisting clients in need of substance abuse treatment.
In today’s world, we are seeing an increase in addictions among other stressors. This course is important to the University as it will assist students in learning practices and procedures as well as state and federal laws and regulations needed to provide proper care to clients in need of addictions treatment. Students will also learn evidence based practices to apply to the treatment of their clients, their families, and society.
In this course, students will be focusing on Hebrews 13:16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
In Substance Abuse and Society, students will learn the importance to spread witness to people who have an addiction and those in their environment. Students will learn to help their clients by guidance, rehabilitation, treatment and support through God.
Throughout the Bible we are told to spread the word of Jesus as well as love our neighbors. Within our own communities, people are suffering from addictions. Through this course, future counselors will learn how to manage clients and their family by understanding the substance abuser and their environment.
In this course, students will learn how addictions influence those from diverse populations as well as how to treat them including their cultural beliefs.
This course will emphasis the importance of ministry to those client’s in need of substance abuse treatment by using knowledge gained from the course to assess and deliver resources to those in need by means of the Bible for knowledge in ministry.
Through the course, students will learn state and federal laws and requirements as well as evidenced based practice, and will be able to relate these in the field.
