MLV1000EN - Intro to Missional Living

Course description

This course focuses on living as a disciple in every area of life. Missional is a ministry buzz word but few know how to live it. This course gives students a clear definition of missional, best practices to living a missional life, and a template to apply God’s Mission to any context in which the student lives.

How this course benefits students

Missional is a buzzword in ministry circles today with little consistency on what it actually means. There is a need for students to have a clear definition of what it is and how it can be lived out in everyday life.

Why this course is important

Missional Living is the foundation to the missional church and ultimately to a missional university. If a student can’t live missionally after they have achieved a certificate or degree from a university then the faculty has failed them. This course helps students gain a clear foundation of the missional life.

How this course relates to missional core values

Biblically based

This course is based on a biblical worldview. We focus on key texts from Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 1:8, Acts 2:42-48, among others. A grounding in scripture will be key for students to learn the Missio Dei and the missional living implications.

Missionally driven

The course helps students define the word missional and how to live out the missional mandate in their everyday life.

Contextually informed

This course gives them a template using Ray Oldenburgs 3 places to develop a contextual way for living out their missional mandate. The course also brings in many practitioners from different contexts to help each student depending on their particular context.

Interculturally focused

This course seeks to integrate the concepts into every cultural context. The theme contextually is “let culture be your context.” The course will bring in practitioners from many different cultures.

Practically minded

This course helps the students to develop practical ways they can live missionally in their everyday life.

Experientially transformed

The course encourages students to live out what they are learning and share their experiences with the rest of the class.
