This course provides the basic description of communication from a Biblical perspective which reaches across cultural settings. Students discuss, compare, and relate specific Biblical examples of communication to postmodern contexts.
This course is integrated in quite a few degree programs. So, since we are “missionally-driven" and "interculturally-focused" this course provides a foundation of missiological communication for all degree types.
Students are provided with key textbooks in the area of missional thinking and communication in order to motivate them to change their minds and hearts towards an effective mindset in missional communication.
The Bible not only provides the "content" of the Christian message, but also provides the "mode" and "context" for missional communication in all situations. Jesus Christ, the Apostle Paul, and other Scriptures lead the way in defining "missional communication" for witnessing.
Effective communicators focused with culturally appropriate messages for the response of listeners will advance the Kingdom of God in all areas.
Whatever messages we share and methods we employ must be “contextualized” for the audience to whom we are communicating and serving. This course will allow students to expand their basic knowledge of communication and apply it to their immediate context.
We desire that all peoples would have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We desire that Christian believers learn how to express their faith effectively in their own social context in culturally-appropriate ways. Correctly identifying theory that applies in different human contexts is crucial for effectiveness
In order to address spiritual issues with the words of the Gospel and perform a wide range of deeds of compassion, mercy, and justice, one must first know the definition of such concepts as they relate to the message of the Gospel and in sharing the Gospel. Know and then do.
Reflection, identification, observation, and comprehension of basic communication theory changes the student's perspective about communication and prepare the student for future mission endeavors.
