Explore the fundamentals of selected earth resources, including: coal, gold, petroleum, mineral sands, base metals, and geothermal energy.
Students gain understanding of different earth resources and how the transformation of earth resources has shaped human civilization. Students articulate why it is crucial for earth resources to be explored, developed and exploited in a sustainable manner and what this means for earth resources, most of which are non-renewable in nature.
The ability for humans to explore, exploit and transform earth resources sets them apart from the rest of creation. However, most earth resources are non-renewable (meaning they cannot be replaced or regenerated naturally) and should be utilized with this understanding in mind.
