Dr. Scobie Smith combines historical linguistics with software development in a career of Ancient Near Eastern and Old Testament research and teaching. His historical linguistic research has been presented at the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago, the Evangelical Theological Society, the American Oriental Society, and the Society of Biblical Literature. He has provided software design and expertise for linguistic components of Hebrew, Greek, and Akkadian for Logos Bible Software, Tolle Lege Press, and Tyndale House Publishing. He assists clients in producing interlinear Bible databases with grammatical analysis, Bible concordances, and grammatical parsing tools. His teaching experience spans thirty years including teaching at seminaries, Biblical institutes, and Harvard University. He has served as a pastor and elder in churches and has contributed teaching and pulpit supply to several churches across the Northwest US. As a software development engineer at Microsoft he developed cloud-based software to collect and process large amounts of data about the company's infrastructure. Dr. Smith lives in the Pacific Northwest of the United States.
