Students will expand their knowledge and skills based on Biblical principles which lead to good community development practice based on sound ethical thinking.
There are many missional endeavors that revolve around community development. The student will complete this course with a clear understanding of sound biblically ethical principles to help him/her as community development strategies are designed. The course will emphasize that an ethical foundation must undergird all missional endeavors to avoid pragmatism pitfalls.
Too often those in Christian ministry fall into the temptations of pragmatism and varieties of “the end justifies the means.” This course aims to keep the student focused on doing the right things in community development the right way.
The course will be grounded in Biblical principles and ethics.
The course will approach community development from the missional perspective; that is, to engage people with the gospel of Christ.
Every community is in its own context. Therefore, a theology of community development will take into account all aspects of context.
A missional approach to community development will entail cross-cultural and inter-cultural approaches.
The student will learn practical approaches and methods of community development.
The student will be expected to participate in a variety of community development experiences.
