Dr. La'Bianca Champion is a seasoned professional in forensic psychology and criminal justice, with over nine years of experience in correctional environments and a strong background in public safety training. Holding a Ph.D. in Forensic Psychology and a Master’s in Forensic Psychology & Legal Systems from Walden University, as well as a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from Columbus State University, she has built a robust academic foundation. Her research interests span cultural studies, cognitive behavior theory, psychodynamic theory, and the psychology of terrorism, with a focus on human development and ethics in law.
Dr. Champion’s career began as a Correctional Officer at the Georgia Department of Corrections, where she monitored offenders and contributed to facility safety. She advanced to Behavior Health Counselor II, managing offender caseloads, conducting risk/needs assessments, and facilitating group sessions. As a Public Safety Trainer I, she led training programs, developed instructional materials, and ensured staff proficiency in critical skills like firearms and CPR. In 2021, she joined the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff and Adjunct Instructor, enforcing laws, providing courtroom security, and training recruits in defensive tactics and public safety protocols until October 2022.
Her research experience includes a qualitative dissertation on correctional officer stress in solitary confinement units and serving as a proposal reviewer for the American Psychological-Law Society (2019, 2022). A member of Psi Chi Honors Society and the National Society of Leadership and Success, Jane is skilled in engaging diverse learners and remains committed to advancing forensic psychology and public safety through education and practice.
