THC4510EN - Post-Cone Black Theology

Course description

This advanced course surveys developments in Black theology after James H. Cone from an unapologetically evangelical commitment to the triune God’s missio Dei as revealed in Scripture and consummated in Jesus Christ. Students will assess contemporary voices (Hopkins, Roberts, Warnock, Jennings, Carter, and others) through the lens of historic orthodox convictions: the authority of Scripture, the centrality of Christ’s person and work, the necessity of personal conversion, and the church as the Spirit-indwelled agent of God’s kingdom mission. Special emphasis is placed on how the missio Dei continues to confront white supremacy, economic injustice, mass incarceration, and ecological devastation while calling the church to faithful evangelistic, prophetic, and diaconal witness. The course prepares students to participate in the ongoing mission of the Triune God with theological depth, biblical fidelity, and evangelical passion for the gospel’s transforming power in every sphere of life.
