This is an introductory course to the ethical notion of cultural competence. Cultural Competence is required for all human service workers so they can adequately engage clients whom they are serving. This course utilizes National Association of Social Workers standards of competence. Followers of Christ must be prepared to reach all people. This course will help students become more sensitive and effective with people who are different.
Our culture is becoming increasingly diverse. To be an effective leader, we must embrace the diversity that is around us. One of the ways to do this is, is to become competent in another person’s culture. Cultural competence in the midst of diversity is a critical asset in today’s marketplace.
This course is critical for the effective engagement of people who are different than us in the world. We must be prepared. We must be effective. We must love our neighbor as ourselves. At MU, we embrace an open and humble attitude toward cultures that are different from our own.
