This course is a pre-requisite for all other courses within the degree fields of Community Ministry in Public Safety & Security. It provides students with a career focused approach by examining the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for law enforcement, security, intelligence, and investigations. This course also introduces students to the legal system, professional conduct, safety, and types of crime committed.
This course is an introduction with an emphasis toward public safety and security career opportunities. Those wishing to serve within the public safety and security field and are seeking to live out a missional calling through their work would benefit from this course. This profession often finds citizens and victims experiencing trying and tough times in their life. This course places an emphasis on students to have compassion as Jesus Christ showed.
This course provides an introduction to issues and career fields related to public safety and security. This includes but is not limited to an understanding of the crimes, laws, programs, agencies, and institutions involved in the anticipation of public safety. Public safety agencies face several challenges arising from environmental, natural disasters, law enforcement, and to the operation of correctional facilities. In addition, issues related to community resilience, social, economic and political vulnerabilities, and ethical responses to risk management need to be considered and understood by public safety leaders and managers. The course addresses these and other issues within the context of community missions.
This course has a biblical foundation of respect at its core. It elaborates on biblical and theological models on assisting individuals within the field of public safety.

Public safety and security issues require a multi-faceted approach. Utilizing demographics, social science research methodology, biblical and theological, and case studies this course provides context to a student's local community.
Public safety as a career is a culturally diverse profession. Students recognize the effects of racial tensions, socio-economic status, and ethnic divisions. Students recognize that this field takes them out of their own cultural comfort zone.
