Course description

Human resources professionals are strategic partners in managing organizations and in complying with the law. Students will overview an HR professional’s myriad responsibilities, including recruiting, appraising, retaining, and compensation of an organization’s employees. Additional topics will include discipline and grievance procedures, as well as an overview of workplace compliance laws.

How this course benefits students

HR professionals are increasingly responsible for the management of the talent within an organization, both to make sure that they do not violate the law, but to recruit and pay those who represent an organization. They are usually part of creating the mission and ethical code within an organization and enforcing it.

Why this course is important

Organizations rely on HR departments to recruit and train their greatest asset: their employees. HR professionals have legal obligations to an organization and are called upon to address a myriad of ethical situations faced by employees within an organization. This course will provide students with the opportunity to evaluate the role of human resources within an organization.

Christian practices include being good stewards of what the Master has given one to control. Human resources departments manage those who work for an organization to ensure that they operate legally and in a manner consistent with the authority they have been given.

Missionally driven

How those within an organization act reflects on the organization as a whole. HR professionals are called to recruit those best suited to represent the organization and carry out its mission. To be effective as a Human Resources Professional, one must act to protect the organization while meeting a myriad of needs of employees. Students must be sensitive to issues of disability, and sexual harassment and ensure that an organization is safe for all employees, while ensuring that recruitment and hiring practices do not discriminate against applicants.

This course will provide students with an understanding of the role of human resources in any organization.

Many organizations are made up of employees from many cultures and ethnicities. HR professionals need to be sensitive to the needs of all employees and ensure that they are trained to operate in a diverse environment without prejudice or bigotry.

This course will provide students with practical knowledge of the legal and business responsibilities of HR professionals.

Experientially transformed

This course will provide students with the knowledge to understand the functions of an HR department and how its role is critical to the success of an organization. In the graduate version of this course, students will focus on creating training modules for employees and in recognize and addressing ethical dilemmas.
