Course description

The utilization of mental health interventions and strategies are essential for mental health improvement. The course will examine community mental health models, strategies, and interventions that providers use in order to assess needs and help individuals work towards recovery.

How this course benefits students

Students will demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of concepts of individual empowerment, assessment needs, consumer participation, and collaboration practices. A critical analysis of various practices of mental health treatment and recovery will be covered.

The course will provide students with the necessary interventions and strategies that will assist their efforts in confronting mental illness. The students will learn the effectiveness of working with the Holy Spirit and other professionals in a multidisciplinary approach to lead towards mental health recovery.

Biblically based

Prevention and restoration of mental health illness are biblical topics that will be discussed in this course. A biblical perspective of ways to improve recovery initiatives and ways to reduce ongoing stress will be covered. Developing a positive attitude and allowing God to be the forefront of challenges related to mental health is vital to recovery.

Missionally driven

Many individuals in the community have difficulty obtaining and retaining mental health healing. Missional leaders are often confronted such individuals on the missional field. Thus, missional called Christians must be effectively equipped with the knowledge necessary to lead individuals to mental health healing and restoration.

Students will gain knowledge of the effects of mental illness and strategies that should be utilized for improvement. Several contextual approaches will be used to assist students with obtaining meaningful contributions to mental health recovery. For instance, the policy context of mental health will be discussed in this course. The approach will contribute to understanding mental health policies that have been instituted in communities.

Interculturally focused

Recovery for individuals may be determined by cultural beliefs and value systems. Developing knowledge of cultural factors that may negatively or positively influence mental health improvement will be covered in this course.

Practically minded

Students will be able to describe several practice paradigms and understand the importance of community as a place for mental health practice. They will develop a consumer focused understanding to guide the mental health improvement and recovery process.

Experientially transformed

An understanding of participation and collaboration will be examined. Students will gain an understanding of the importance of others being involved in the recovery and improvement process. Family and community support are cruicial in preventing relapse.
