GSP3320EN - Geostatistics II: Geostatistical Applications Theory

Course description

This course builds on the introduction to Geostatistics. It is ideally suited for those who seek a more in-depth understanding of modern geostatistical tools. The course introduces applications of applied geostatistics, which address optimal spatial interpolation. It emphasizes the use and evaluation of spatial analytical methods applied to environmental systems and processes. Lab sections and several bi-weekly assignments are used to process, analyze, and visualize geospatial data. These activities provide students with hands-on experience in using geostatistical tools.

How this course benefits students

Students gain a thorough grounding in the use of geostatistical methods to analyze spatially geo-referenced. Also, this course provides students with an opportunity to integrate their domain knowledge into the geostatistical model.

Why this course is important

This course equips graduates with cutting-edge methods and applications in the field of data science that help them apply specialized knowledge and skills for enhanced job performance and career advancement.

How this course relates to missional core values

Biblically based

The course aligns the application of geostatistics to Biblical understanding of the Christian life in such a way that students is not lured into uncritically accepting certain predispositions.

Missionally driven

In this course, students are not only taught "the facts" which modern textbooks present but are trained to know that there are different presumptions as to what constitutes a "fact," as well as different interpretations and uses of them to enhance missions and a missional lifestyle.

Contextually informed

This course, through biblical perspective, presents statistics in the light of the missional context.

Interculturally focused

Christian geostatisticians of every culture are equipped with powerful Geostatistical tools to understand the complexity of data arising from Earth sciences.

Practically minded

Students are equipped with skills developed through lecture material, and hands-on computer lab exercises to enhance our understanding of biblical stories.

Experientially transformed

Students are engaged in the use of geostatistical research and education in light of Biblical Christianity.
