EMU3800EN - Fundamentals of Music in American Cultures

Course description

A survey of the musical influences that has contributed to the eclectic style of American music. This course will investigate the five most influential music that has contributed to the American music culture. Particular attention will be given to religious music from the American Colonies to the 21st century.

How this course benefits students

Students will be able to identify the stylistic markers, historical context, social significance and cultural impact that these musical influences had on the American culture. Students will be able to make the comparisons between the genres that had the most significant influence on both the American Culture and the church.

Why this course is important

This is an undergraduate course that acquaints students with some of the musical influences on the American cultures. While this course will survey several music influences, the primary purpose is to identify the cultural influences these influences had in the church.
