Placed with an on-site professional who manages your workload and oversees your performance, much as an administrator in an actual employment setting would, you engage in full-time application of program learning as you perform professional duties. The course may be repeated with a total credit limit of 6 credit hours. Specific course numbers by department include: EMP 4941 - Missional Living; EMP 4942 - Emerging Leadership; EMP 4943 - Urban Mission; EMP 4944 - Missional Congregations; EMP 4945 - Organizational Leadership.
Full-time authentic work experience enable students to apply program learning, learn from other professionals, gain exposure to the variety of tasks within a given profession, and reflect upon themselves as performers of those tasks all while receiving support and constructive feedback from an on-site supervisor.
Experiential learning courses move students beyond the eclassroom to a sequence of experiences that foster practical interaction with course concepts as a means of preparing the student for lifelong mission in the service of God within their respective academic disciplines and equipping students to become missional professionals and leaders in their chosen fields of endeavors.
Internships are rooted in the New Testament concept of "disciple" as a learner who follows the master teacher.
Students will identify where God is at work among peoples in a professional community and join in this work.
Students reflect upon and interact within the career related professional culture.
Students observe the extant of and interact within the cultural diversity of the profession.
Students will put into practice course concepts in order to develop their skills and ehance personal giftedness as they contribute to their field-work site.
Students will experience an actual work environment, reflect upon themselves as a missional professional and leader, and provide positive benefit to the internship site.
