ELD4350EN - Leading & Developing Millennial Ministry

Course description

This course examines the cohort characteristics of the Millennial generation alongside the student’s own ministry gifts and calling so that the student can maximize their impact as they lead and disciple others in missional contexts.

How this course benefits students

Special emphasis is given to the discovery of the skills and abilities, temperaments, spiritual gifts and leadership styles of the student so they can build on their strengths as they develop ministries to Millennials. The course also helps students identify which sphere of society they are called to so that they can follow the missio Dei and create contextualized ministry in every sector of the culture.

Why this course is important

Because Millennials are the most un-churched, dechurched generation among us, it is imperative that students understand how to fulfill the Great Commission, to go into all the world and make disciples. Students are challenged to take the principles and concepts learned in this program and apply them to the Millennials around them. The goal is transformation of the student by drawing out their individual giftedness for their unique missional calling. Students are encouraged to move from theory to praxis as they apply their acquired knowledge in their own spheres of influence in order to effectively disciple the Millennials around them.

How this course relates to missional core values

Biblically based

This course lays a biblical foundation of ministry leadership through the study of men and women in the Bible who were called, equipped, and dispatched by God to transform a particular people group for the glory of God.

Missionally driven

Students examine the ways in which the Great Commission can be fulfilled among Millennials through the development of missionally-oriented ministries and a focus on being "sent ones" into the world around them.

Contextually informed

Students gain a grasp of the key principles and basic tools needed to contextualize their ministries to the Millennial generation. Students are challenged to consider how Christian forms, symbols, and language can be adapted into a format which is relevant to Millennials while retaining fidelity to Christian orthodoxy.

Interculturally focused

Special attention is given to the various cultural contexts in which Millennials can be found, including specific domains or spheres such as business, entertainment, government, or education. Students identify which cultural sphere they feel most passionate about and develop a ministry plan to that particular sphere.

Practically minded

Readings and activities provided help students to go beyond theoretical considerations of generational differences and ministry approaches, and gives them the opportunity to create methods that can be applied immediately in their lives.

Experientially transformed

Assignments guide students toward experimenting with different ministry approaches to Millennials in order to gain competency in ministry as well as understand their own leadership style.
