Explores various ways in which drama therapy can be used in a cultural context. Methods for finding appropriate interventions are discussed. Students learn about the negative effect of stigma on non-dominant populations and the issues that stem from stigmatization and ostracism within a community. Students are encouraged to assess their own prejudices and pre-conceptions in order to become more aware of how they interact with clients.
This introductory course has a primary focus on cultural diversity in social ministry contexts. The course addresses various aspects of race, ethnicity and religion that affect the implementation of drama therapy in culturally-appropriate interventions.
This course will encourage the student practitioner to imagine and integrate Drama Therapy with various cultures and ethnicities. The graduate level course may count toward credit for the Registered Drama Therapist credential with the North American Drama Therapy Association.
This course will serve as a reminder to the student that God so loved the world (John 3:16). The world includes every race, nation, tongue, and culture.

The course is practical in that it encourages students to consider that while the gospel message is “one-size-fits-all”, the method is not. Understanding creative ways to reach different people is a practical skill for missional Chrisitans.
Theatre arts, by nature and definition, is an experiential medium. Students will be equipped to take the lessons learned from the course and apply them directly in their church or missional assignments.
