CHE3300EN - Home School Teaching Methods and Instructional Strategies

Course description

This course develops practical teaching skills across core academic disciplines. Home School Educators learn multiple instructional approaches including direct instruction, Socratic questioning, hands-on discovery, narration, and project-based learning. The course covers subject-specific pedagogy: teaching phonics and reading comprehension, math conceptual understanding and problem-solving, writing instruction and revision processes, science inquiry methods, and historical thinking skills. Students practice explaining concepts clearly, asking questions that promote deeper thinking, providing effective feedback, and adapting instruction when children struggle. Emphasis is placed on fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and genuine understanding rather than mere memorization.
