This course will explore various methods for conducting public outreach and education regarding general disaster and emergency preparedness. In addition, students will be exposed to the fundamental principles of community relations for non-profits and how these can be applied in a crisis or disaster.
Communication during a disaster or crisis is critical to public safety, but effective communication can very difficult to the circumstances of the disaster or crisis. This course will help students understand and be equipped to apply the principles of effective communications in a crisis or disaster.
Emergency response is a field in which specific techniques, procedures, and organizations are required to be effective. This course will help the student demonstrate an understanding of these factors.
This course is Biblical because as it addresses the communication needs of people in crisis.
This course is missional in that the subject of this work is done outside the physical plant of the church
This course is Contextual because it addresses needs in the environment of the person(s) being assisted.
This course is Intercultural because all peoples experience disaster and crisis.
Ths course has Practical application in society because disasters occur in society.
This course is Experiential in that the class will help the students understand how to mitigate the effects of disaster on their community.
