This course is designed to provide an exploration of the various approaches to reducing crime as well as the theories that inform those approaches. We will focus most fully on situational approaches to crime prevention, though we will also explore crime prevention through social development, community-based crime prevention. We will also examine how policing intersects with these various approaches to crime prevention.
In correlation with the School's mission and vision, lead and equip students for the purpose of preparing leaders to join God's mission of spiritually transforming people and communities. The goal of the School and Criminal Justice System Community is to embrace the true meaning of Christian citizenship and civic responsibility; students will have the opportunity to master the skillset for thriving in this sector as a leader for Christ. Learning to apply what is taught in the classroom to real life issues will allow the student to help others in the criminal justice field with an unbiased mind and thought process. Crime prevention strategies are ideal for Law Enforcement Officers, City Planners, City Managers, City Council Members, Architects, Security Consultants, or anyone involved in designing neighborhoods, schools, downtowns, buildings, or revitalization efforts. It is an effective way of fighting crime and promoting business.
Create a foundational instruction on addressing racial and cultural disparity in our criminal justice system, providing resources and training tools for those in the judicial, prosecutorial, and defense agencies, as well other members of the legal professional community.
The practical aspect of this course helps students to engage in the works of mission in the criminal justice system because of the character and activities of God and His mission.
