In this course, Missional students will take a look at cultural diversity in the daily life and beliefs in families with young children. Various readings, discussions, videos, guest lectures, observations and reflective writing exercises will be utilized to assist future social science professionals in understanding and developing the personal and relational skills necessary to be active, transformative leaders. Missional students will learn key concepts, ethics, behaviors and competencies related to social work/social science professions and this course will also encourage Missional students to explore their own identity as a leader and professional in the social science field.
This course will provided imperative elements that are vital for understanding cultural competence necessary to build strong relationships with young children and families from a variety of cultural and linguistic/ communication backgrounds. Missional Students will also study contemporary issues and trends that are impacting young children and families.
This course is valuable because it sets the tone for social science professionals to know their role when providing services for young children and their families. This course also teaches how to provide services in an ethical and proper manner.
This course has biblical foundations that support the need for assisting social science professionals in honing in on their personal and relational skills that are necessary for interacting with and providing services for young children and families, from a spiritual perspective (striving to keep families together).
