The Missional student will learn basic concepts and principles of community organization and organizational theory including social structures and processes, social change, social control, social stratification, and socialization through community organizations and institutions; With emphasizes on community and organizational assessment and intervention, ethics, and the roles of the social worker in working within an organizational context and within a community.
Missional students will demonstrate abilities to organize and structure Case Studies. They will be able to utilize appropriate content of studies and assigned scholarly materials to explore how to begin community organization practice. MU students will be able to discuss specific themes within a study in submitted assignments such as essays, practice papers, presentations, and others crafted by teachers. They will demonstrate abilities to understand the primary practice tasks related to organizing a child-focused community needs assessment related to the assessment content contained in the case studies. They will also demonstrate abilities to organize theoretical projects containing elements of action, youth participation, and training, as treatment interventions with planned positive outcomes benefiting children, indivduals, groups, and families.
This course is need to increase awareness of personal values and the basic values and goals of generalist social work practice. Missional students will be able to practice in the context of organizations, government, and communities within the values and ethics of the social work profession and with respect for the positive value of diversity. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the Christian worldview and lifestyle that val-ues human life, its diversity, and promotes social and economic justice.
The course is Bibliclly based, for student development and the grasping of knowlegde to integrate biblical models through the gospel by word or deed, and through social work delivery of services to various populations.
This course is missional because of the emphasis on providing services beyond the scope of the traditional church setting.
This course is contextual because of the exploration of practice methods for working with organizations, communities, and government; the examination of knowledge, values, and skills for building professional relationships and working to enhance human well-being by leadership in organizational, policy, and community development. Assessment, problem-solving, and advocacy strategies are examined as well.
Students will apply an intercultural understanding to people of divers backgrounds (i.e. religious and nonreligious spiritual perspectives and cultural traditions that impact organization an developmrnt ofa strong community.
Students will be introduced to the generalist social work method of practice with organizations and communities (macro practice).
Students will experience training in the strength-based, solution-focused problem solving approach, encompassing the skills of engagement, data-collection, assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation and termination.
