This course will discuss grant award criteria and the implementation of grants. Grant administration, contracts and sub agreements will be discussed in depth. Key concepts, including policies and legal aspects of funding will be covered. Student will learn about the role of the principal investigator; including budgeting, reporting, accountability, in-kind contributions, foundations, leadership and networking.
The course assumes basic knowledge of funding and grant writing. It is designed to focus on grant administration, reporting and accountability.
It is necessary for students to learn the many sources of funding that exist at all levels to promote growth for small businesses, non-profit organizations, large institutions and church ministry. It helps to know foundations that are giving the most, along with their overall purpose, the kinds of Christian organizations they fund, and the kinds of programs that interest them.
This course will help promote honesty and integrity in the grant writing and administration process. Concentration on ethics is essential for those entrusted with the oversight of public funds.
Grant writers and administrators work with a team of people and are sometimes faced with ethical decisions related to the scope of work. Ethics will be discussed, as well as leadership.
Grants provide a unique ministry, that could lead to growth and economic development.
Students will participate in discussions that may take them out of their own cultural comfort zone.
This course will provide a hands-on approach to learning, with practical cases and projects.
Students will research grant awards and funding, including legal aspects.
