This course will examine and analyze missional communities. This class will study the theology behind a missional community both from scripture, missiologists, and practitioners. Students will learn common pitfalls to a missional community and why they can fail.The course will help students contextually lead a community on mission to a particular place and people.
The only way to sustain living the missional life is in community. In scripture Jesus sent the disciples out two by two or in groups. The apostles were never alone. This course will give students an understanding of how to effectively start and lead a community on mission to a particular people and place. It will be helpful for students to learn that a missional community is more than just a small group in a church to help close the back door. Students need a clear understanding of what a Missional Community is, how to avoid pitfalls, and how to effectively help others live the missional life
A missional community is the primary organizing structure for the missional church. The most effective way a student can live the missional life is in community. A missional community is core to live that, planting churches, and seeing disciples of Jesus made. This course builds on Intro to Missional Living, gives a foundation for planting churches, and making disciples in every context our students are in.
This course will be based on a biblical worldview. We will focus on key texts from Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 1:8, Acts 2:42-48, among others. We will also spend time looking at how Jesus led his missional community from the book of Luke. A grounding in scripture will be key for students to learn how to effectively lead a missional community.
The course will help students learn how to start and lead a community of missionally driven disciples.
This course will give them a template using Ray Oldenburgs 3 places to develop a contextual way for living out their missional mandate in community and build on the Intro to Missional Living course. The course will also bring in many practitioners from different contexts to help each student depending on their particular context. It will help students identify their calling to a particular people and place to lead a community on mission to.
This course will seek to integrate the concepts into every cultural context. The theme contextually will be “let culture be your context.” The course will bring in practitioners from many different culture’s.
This course will help the students to develop practical ways they can lead a missional community in their local context.
The course will encourage students to live out what they are learning and share their experiences with the rest of the class.
