One of the important skills for public health researchers/ epidemiologists is learning how to write and critically review epidemiological papers. The objective of the course is to introduce students to scientific writing and how to communicate their research findings to targeted audience. In addition students will also learn how to critically review epidemiological papers using a critique outline
As missionaries and public health researchers, student must be able to disseminate their research findings through publications and also learn how to review peer-reviewed articles in scientific journal. Students will learn the skills through writing assignments and reading of published articles .
Writing and assessing publications is an important skills for public health researchers. If research findings are well-disseminated, it can help to understand the patterns of disease in human population and help to effect policy change
The course will help students cultivate the art of writing and communicating clearly with their targeted audience. These skills will also be useful when they develop outline when teaching/communicating with the community being served on the mission field.
This course will address effective communication/ dissemination of findings through scientific writing
Writing of epidemiological papers involve being logical and clear. Student must bear in mind, that diverse people will read their publications and should therefore make effort to make it clear to their readers.
The course will build on lessons from EPI 5100 in learning how to interprete research findings by following a critique outline. Student will be asked to write a short epidemiological paper with major headings to enable them develop their skills in scientific writing
Students will be challenged to write an epidemiological study on a topic or health outcome which is of interest to them or which is related to the population they are serving. In addition, student will also critique articles individually and in groups
