The purpose of this course is to introduce Christian missional leaders to the field of epidemiology and its utilization in public health. The course will explore the role and principles of epidemiology and describe components of epidemiology such as frequency, distribution, and determinants of disease in human population. the course is designed to help students apply epidemiologic concepts and methods in describing.
Students need to understand frequency, distribution, and determinants of diseases in human population and use this knowledge to infer association between health exposure and outcomes.At this level, students will be introduced to intermediate epidemiologic methods and a deeper understanding of various study design in epidemiology and be able to distinguish them.
An in-depth understanding of epidemiology and its application is essential to population health. Students need epidemiological skills to be able to identify health data, calculate and interpret measures of disease occurrence and write and publish epidemiologic studies.
The course will enable students to relate the knowledge gained in this class to describe frequency, distribution, and determinants of a particular outcome in the community being served
In the changing dynamics of the world population and various outbreak of diseases, a basic understanding of the principle of epidemiology will help Christian missionaries in data collection, analysis and make causal inference to better serve the population on mission field.
This course will address issues related to disease occurrence, mortality, infectious disease outbreak and the role of epidemiologists on mission field.
Since the core concepts of epidemiology involves studying disease in various populations, the course will reflect intercultural aspects of epidemiologic studies.
Students completing the course will become familiar with the role of epidemiology, and be able to differentiate various study designs in epidemiology. In addition, they will be able to identify sources of health data and describe the epidemiology of diseases.
Students will be challenged to develop an epidemiological study on a topic or health outcome which is of interest to them or which is related to the population they are serving
