EDR5320EN - Issues in Voice II: Vocal Physiology & Speech Dialects

Course description

Explore vocal physiology, speech patterns, and dialects. In this course, students focus on meeting the demands of heightened text with rigorous clarity, emotional depth, and generosity of scale. Continued release work on the body, coupled with a larger array of vocal skills and increased imaginative capacity, gives actors access to their most expansive selves in order to serve the characters in classical plays.

How this course benefits students

Dialect work can be a significant aspect to any actors work. This course explores vocal physiology, vocal posture, and basic phonetic alphabet changes for a few major dialects. Students gain the skills to successfully work on dialects and vocal control in the professional world.

Why this course is important

It is essential for the actor to learn how to develop their vocal range. Whether it be with heightened text or dialect work the actor must train themselves to be prepared and to know their own limitations and strengths. This course breaks down some of the most difficult aspects of vocal work into exercises and assignments that promote vocal stewardship and encourage students to grow through their own creative expression.
