Course description

The International Strategic Management course requires students to develop a strategic business plan based on applied leadership content for this course, to include both primary research and secondary research. Students' present their research findings within a course presentation. The student develops his/her strategic business plan based on: 1) Executive summary (Identifying the firms’ overview and research bibliography) 2) Vision & Mission statements. 3) Internal & External analyses (SWOT Analysis, industry competitor analysis, and identifying the business level strategy of their firm by Porter). 4) Develop and identify resource capabilities of the firm and potential capabilities that lead to core competencies (Porter’s Five Forces Model). 5) Strategy development for the firm based on (Porter's generic strategies). 6) Development of Corporate level strategies 7) Development of an International Strategy (Porter’s Diamond Model) 8) A thorough Strategic implementation processes for the firm. 9) Strategic leadership and entrepreneurship development plan based on primary research, (survey data to support the students' primary research component for this class). Student leadership skills will be based on the applied project for this course. Ethical business practices by the student are required in an applied format throughout this course, especially how it applies to a missional perspective of the scripture.

 

How this course benefits students

The International Strategic Management class is an applied research course for graduate level business as mission students at Missional University. The course project requires students’ to apply higher level application for the course content, such as: Vision & Mission statements, Internal & External analyses, SWOT Analysis, industry competitor analysis, business level strategies, Resource capabilities of the firm based on Resource Based View, Capabilities to core competencies, Porter’s Five Forces Model, Strategy development for a firm, Porter's generic strategies, Development of Corporate level strategies, Development of an International Strategic plan, Porter’s Diamond Model, Strategic implementation processes, Strategic leadership, and Entrepreneurship development. The student leader in this course will be required to: Analyze, interpret, evaluate, and synthesize strategic management processes within their course capstone project. Primary and secondary research methodology and analysis will be required within the project for this class. Applied ethical business practices will be a primary focus throughout this course.

 

Why this course is important

Ethical leadership in business is a very important topic today. Business ethics taught from the scripture is necessary. Mission oriented individuals with training in ethical business practices will change the essence of business practices.

This course provides students with advanced international strategic management business perspective to develop and foster their intent of starting their own international business presence in a foreign country in a Christian perspective.
