This course familiarizes the student with the concept of Business as Mission (BAM), and then focuses on helping the student to apply the theory and practice of BAM to their own vocations and their own and others' communities.
Students learn how to evaluate, plan for, and launch businesses that further evangelism, church planting, or other kingdom initiatives.
All of us do - or will - work for an organization that has some kingdom-related purpose. At the root level, this course helps students understand to do it better. Many students also discover that they are intended to start or manage a BAM organization.
The creation story in Genesis 2 tells us that all work is holy, and the great commission tells us to make disciples of all nations. Our work is not excluded from the wholeness of God's call on us.
The student learns about Business as Mission, examines models, and is asked to think critically about how to achieve kingdom growth through business.
Students have the opportunity to think about how Business as Mission does or might work in their own context.
Students have the opportunity to think about how to contextualize Business as Mission in their own and another culture.
The course focuses on the building blocks of Business as Mission, and students are able to immediately apply living out mission in their workplace, as well as how to start and manage a focused BAM.
The students are involved in exercises that challenge them to listen to what God might be calling them to related to BAM.
