Bio

Dr. Sara Blakeney holds a significant educational background, including a Ph.D. in Divinity from the University of Aberdeen, where her thesis, "Finding Christ Outside the Four Walls: The Spiritual Formation of Millennials in Missional Church Settings," reflects her research expertise in millennial spirituality. Her academic journey includes an MA in Counseling and a BS in Speech Communication, supplemented by international study experience at Oxford University. These qualifications have prepared her well for her role as the Department of Emerging Leadership Chairperson, Professor of Millennial Faith & Culture, and Millennial Spiritual Formation Specialist.

Dr. Blakeney's professional experience is marked by her engagement with millennials in both ministry and counseling. As the Director of the Young Adults Ministry at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, she actively taught and counseled young adults, conducted premarital seminars, and provided marital counseling. This hands-on experience enabled her to connect effectively with millennials, both individually and in groups. Her skills in leading Bible studies, facilitating discussions, and providing pastoral guidance have contributed to her ability to communicate with millennials on matters of faith and culture.

Her accomplishments include the publication of the book "Ready for More: How Millennials Like You are Destined to Change the Church," which demonstrates her thought leadership in the realm of millennial spirituality. Furthermore, her speaking engagements, such as "Ready for More: Will Millennials Reform the Church?" and "Millennials: Key Trends," showcase her expertise in addressing audiences on topics relevant to millennials. Her involvement in professional associations, including Toastmasters International, Abraham International Ministries, and more, attests to her leadership and communication abilities.

Dr. Blakeney's international mission experiences have enriched her cross-cultural understanding and her ability to connect with diverse groups. Her trips to Ecuador, Jamaica, Ireland, Namibia, Cuba, and the Czech Republic highlight her global perspective and intercultural competency.
